Vanina was born in Isère, to Italian parents. A singer-songwriter, composer, multi-instrumentalist, she studied music at the Conservatory and at the Bill Evans Piano Academy, but also, quite simply, by listening and singing… a lot. Everything, everywhere, all the time.
Her first EP quickly brought her attention as she became a winner or finalist in numerous competitions (Carrefour de la Chanson, Prix Georges Moustaki, etc.). She honed her songwriting skills under the guidance of Claude Lemesle, who encouraged her talent.
An eclectic singer, she performs with the vocal jazz big band Les Voice Messengers as well as in a jazz-rock tribute to Serge Gainsbourg. She has also collaborated with Matthieu Chedid, Jamie Cullum, and Damon Albarn on a Gorillaz album, and sang in Vladimir Cosma’s jazz opera “Marius et Fanny.” These projects have taken her to prestigious French and international stages (La Salle Pleyel, Grand Rex, Duc des Lombards in Paris, Small’s Jazz Club in New York,…).
She has released a French chanson-rock album, tender and atomic. It’s called “Le Soleil s’en fout” (“The Sun Doesn’t Care”). An album like an alarm, coming from afar to remind us of our vital need for love: to look at each other, to look at the planet we live on. To love what we see and take the time to appreciate it.
And on stage, it’s a true fireworks display. She takes us on a journey, from powerful rock energy to ballads that wrap around your soul, from love cries to the stars to distress signals in the storm. Vanina joined Shades of Blue in 2022.
